Armstrong A+ Performance Foil Mast
Armstrong A+ Performance Foil Mast
“As the sport develops, riders push themselves and the equipment to the limits. After listening to feedback, we wanted to develop a new, innovative, ultra-high-performance mast that minimizes drag and ventilation while also being stiffer and even more responsive.” - Armie Armstrong
Experience the next level of foiling with Armstrong's state-of-the-art Performance Mast range. Designed to enhance your riding experience, these masts incorporate cutting-edge technologies and top-of-the-line materials to deliver unparalleled performance on the water.
Crafted with a meticulous combination of high modulus (HM) and intermediate modulus (IM) carbon fibers, the Performance Mast range achieves optimal load distribution across various sections of the mast. The high modulus carbon fibers minimize flex in the central strut area, ensuring maximum stiffness, while the intermediate modulus fibers provide exceptional tensile strength, catering to the complex shapes of the top plate and fuselage connection.
Armstrong incorporated proprietary titanium M7 mast top hardware, ensuring a strong, lightweight, and drag-reducing connection to your board. This meticulous attention to detail not only enhances the overall performance but also guarantees a seamless and effortless riding experience.
The Performance Mast range also introduces a mast rake angle, a groundbreaking feature that fine-tunes the board angle relative to the foil, offering a more comfortable and forgiving ride. It's important to note that the mast rake angle does not alter the lifting force or balance of the foil itself, nor does it impact the foil's "foot pressure" bias from front to back. Instead, it focuses on optimizing the board's underwater performance.
The 1 degree of rake carefully integrated into the top of the Performance Mast shape delivers three key benefits:
-
Reduced Drag: By bringing the foil closer to 0 degrees when the board is in the water, drag is significantly reduced, making takeoffs smoother and more effortless.
-
Forgiving Landings: Touching down at speed or landing a jump becomes more forgiving, minimizing the risk of crashing headfirst over the board. The Performance Mast ensures a controlled and stable landing experience.
-
Enhanced Speed: Lifted slightly at the nose, the mast rake makes it easier to ride at higher speeds without the risk of catching the nose, even at steep riding angles. Enjoy the thrill of speed and precision without compromising stability.

Armstrong Performance Mast - At a Glance
I have to admit, I wasn’t always an Armstrong superfan. Part of my hesitation to embrace the brand was the flex in their first-generation masts. They were beautifully built, but definitely softer than the masts from Slingshot. Mostly this was apparent on the beach when I was flexing the foil or when I occasionally bolted the foil to my windfoil board or if using the 100cm mast. I honestly didn’t notice the flex too much when kite foiling on a small wing and board nor as a progressing wing foiler, but when I got the chance to try the gen 2 masts from KPS, I had to give it a go. Once you spend a little time on the performance masts, there’s no going back. The stiffness is most apparent when riding through white water/turbulence, turning aggressively, pumping and when riding the latest generation of higher span wings. While my previous foils felt wobbly and unstable when riding through white water or turbulence, the new mast feels much more locked in. Pumping results in more forward motion and aggressive turns feel crisp -especially noticeable with larger foil wings. I ride the 935cm and feel it’s the perfect choice for winging and kite foiling. Most riders will still be happy with the original masts, but demanding riders -especially those who ride longer masts and use larger foils should definitely give the performance masts a try.
